Geothermal energy is entering a new phase! The Arverne Group and Banque des Territoires have just announced the creation of “Francilienne de Géothermie”, a company dedicated to developing deep geothermal projects in the Île-de-France region (France). Its ambition: to accelerate the deployment of renewable heating networks in one of Europe’s most favorable regions for this resource. The group claims it can produce geothermal heat at around €60/MWh.
The company, with an initial commitment of €45.1 million, plans to develop the financing, construction, and operation of several geothermal installations for local authorities and urban infrastructure. The first projects are expected to leverage the potential of the Dogger aquifer, which already supplies many of the Île-de-France region’s heating networks.
This announcement illustrates the current momentum of the geothermal market in France. Faced with the challenges of decarbonization and energy sovereignty, investments are increasing to identify and sustainably exploit subsurface resources. In this context, mastery of geoscientific data and exploration tools is a strategic lever for securing projects, reducing risks, and accelerating decision-making.
The creation of Francilienne de Géothermie confirms the growing importance of deep geothermal energy as a structuring energy solution for French territories. It also underscores the key role of technological innovation in understanding and developing subsurface resources.
